"MCH has improved thoroughly my way of thinking, focusing speedily in the highlights of all cases.
MCH is a master oriented to the innovation, systematization and optimization of spaces in collective housing building. It is a Master that develops the principles of Co-Housing (diversity, integrity and versatility) in accordance with specific workshops led by qualified architects that establish their own methodology.
It is a very updated Master that integrates a wide selection of professionals from different fields and origins. The objective of the master is to analyse and understand the current status of different habitats in relation to society, and apply improvement measures for the future operation of the system with its focus on new city models. To do this, the MCH takes as an example projects from countries such as the Netherlands, Finland, Switzerland and Austria and from cities such as Copenhagen, Paris and Zürich, with professionals from each of these places.
MCH has exceeded my expectations."
"MCH is an intense master that focuses on one of the major topics in architecture. Through many lectures, modules and workshops this master expanded my knowledge in housing by analyzing different projects from around the world, from environmental, social, urban and architectural approaches."
"Masters in Collective Housing is an intense course that has provided me with variety of experiences- from Specialties that helped me with details to workshops that enforced the best out of me, from International architects to experts, from site visits internationally and within Madrid.
I have discovered new ways of designing living conditions through various phases of the course. Most of the projects were designed during 5 days of intense workshops which gave me the insight of international competitions framework. Workshops helped me to work to the limits and coordinate with my colleagues and mix our ideas to produce one project. It was a privilege to work under some renowned international architects who not only incorporated us with a housing project but also shared their way of working and adapting architecture.
The mix of cultures and thinkers from different parts of the world has allowed me to learn a bit from each individual. The ambiance of MCH classroom is very friendly and inspiring. Here people are always excited and motivated for new challenges that come up with different subjects which creates a positive atmosphere around.
For me the study trips were the highlight that helped me to learn a lot. Especially the study trip to Zurich, visiting architectural offices and moving around some housing projects was a wonderful experience.
I am thankful to MCH for the international exposure, professors and leaders that they bring into the course which fulfilled my expectations."
"I liked the fact that the master was organized by UPM and ETH universities. I studied in the first one, and I thought that having the support of the Zurich University could be very interesting.
After completing more than the half of the program, I have to say that my expectations are being met. The format is mainly practical, and very very intense. The rhythm varies along the weeks and subjects, which allows each one to be organized according to their needs.
For me the workshops are the part that I take the most and the one that excites me the most, and being able to work hand in hand with professionals of such prestige is a unique sensation.
The atmosphere in class is very good. I was afraid that competitiveness would be to the detriment of the relations between us, but the truth is that it has not been like that, and we got along great. There is competitiveness, yes, in a healthy and constructive way. The dynamics of work in different teams also favors the good atmosphere.
The trip to Zurich has been a great experience and a turning point, although it is true that making visits, activities and workshop work compatible has been quite hard.
As a conclusion, and still with a couple of months, to finish, the international workshops are undoubtedly the most motivating part, as well as the visits in Zurich: they opened my eyes."
"The Master in Collective Housing is a truly intense course. The study program delves into some of the most important subjects that concern the cities and housing currently.
On the one hand the Specialities offer the opportunity to research and develop the projects during several weeks while meeting some of the most relevant lecturers on those matters. On the other hand, the Workshops teach you how to make important decisions efficiently and develop a project in 5 days along with some of the most recognised architects in the world. Being able to discuss and work hand in hand both with the Workshop Leaders and with their Assistant Professors is one of the most enriching experiences of this master.
The combination of Architects coming from so many diverse backgrounds, ages and experience makes the experience much more appealing, preparing you to work in an increasingly globalised world.
The trip to Zurich in this master has been a highlight. Having the opportunity to be in the ETH facilities, and to visit so many outstanding housing projects along with some of the authors of these, was a memorable experience.
To conclude, I would say that this master gives you the opportunity to widen your knowledge in many diverse subjects regarding collective housing and the city; it gives you the opportunity to design and discuss with some of the most important Architects across the globe; and it teaches you to work with people from many different cultures creating bonds that I believe will endure over time."
"MCH has given me a vast knowledge of what as professionals in the world do in a very intense and rigorous working method. The course has given us the opportunity to examine and approach a situation in a responsive and creative method which I find is the key to broaden the understanding of architecture and add it in our professional palette. As an international student it was a very eye opening experience to amalgamate with people from different countries and cultures which is an altogether a different vibe. The architectural experts and professionals from all around the world in Madrid as a communion makes this Masters a different league altogether.
Thorough lectures and teachers have given us a strong foundation of understanding the theoretical architectural concepts. Though the intensity of the subjects was a challenge but at the end the fruitfulness of the same will be much evident in time to come.
I really believe that the workshops of the Masters are the turning point for me as a professional. The short timed and intensive five day workshops are really challenging and the end product is as promising. The true learning of the workshops is to arrive at a perfect synchronization with different people and their varying working patterns to collectively enforce a strong project and statement. Engulfing different and creative approaches as a team is a real enriching and learning experience.
The study trip to Zurich and ETH was a mix of learning and also a way to see the architectural offices and their projects is once in a life time experience.
All in all, I would say that the Masters is a power packed and a well-structured approach for professionals wishing to pursue a successful career in Housing or Architecture respectively. I am really thankful to MCH for giving me a new horizon of life."
"The MCH is fulfilling my expectations as it has been teaching me different approaches to conceive housing projects through the different workshops. My relationship with my MCH colleagues has been very constructive as we all share with each other different perspectives on architecture and life in general. All of us help each other with a positive attitude when it comes to learning to use some tools during the workshops.
The international workshops have been very productive as I have learnt a lot so far, they are totally the best part of the MCH because we as students push our knowledge and skills to the maximum to learn in a short time period. The quality of the professors has been impressive and all of them have taught us something different architectural related. For me, the international workshops are the highlight of the master.
Moreover, the atmosphere I feel in the MCH is an academic and professional environment where all the ways of thinking are considered, and I feel no one is left behind. All our questions and perspectives are taken into account when debating or during lectures, which makes the classes more interesting and more constructive for everyone. The different cultural backgrounds of the people participating in the master has been a fuel for building knowledge and better architectural projects.
Finally, the study trip to Zurich was very interesting and I found the housing projects interesting and new to me. The day we spent in the ETH was very nice and we got to know the university and the architectural faculty, which I found to be one of the best in the world. It would be very interesting to spend more time in this university and maybe even working together with some ETH students. The only thing I think made us all a bit unhappy was the fact that we had a workshop and all the free time we had had to be dedicated to working in the hotel. This could improve if the workshop is made before or after the trip, this way the students could use more their free time to visit more interesting housing project and get to know the city better."
"The MCH is indeed a very intense and condensed master, focusing meticulously on training students hand in hand with some of the best architects in the world to tackle housing and city issues: two of the most current and relevant subjects in the architectural field. As a result, there is a high level of professionals committed to teach and carry the courses fruitfully and also enjoyably to the class. Now that the master has come to an end I can firmly assert that the MCH does commit and deliver in teaching and motivating its students deeply and practically on the subject.
Due to its short instructional time span (at least compared to other masters) the MCH is reduced to 7 very intense and diverse 5-day workshops and 9 seminar modules- almost all of which are worked in a collaborative manner. The latter becomes a challenging yet very nurturing practice, as it involves ideally harmonious teamwork between group members in order to produce very thorough and successful projects in such short time. Though at some moments during the master you'll find yourself quite overwhelmed working simultaneously with various groups, you'll get to learn on how to manage to find the adequate time and organization to work. Additionally, I liked the healthy competition fostered in class, where not only strong and lasting friendships are formed but also a great opportunity to learn from your peers.
Personally, I enjoyed all seminar specialties because of the many stimulating lectures given by inspiring professionals and architects coming from all around the world, and the fact that they typically involve a bit more time to produce more "mature" and evolutional projects. Anyhow, I do wish we could have had a deeper focus on some of these specialty subjects due to their heavy importance and impact along with housing and cities. The workshops are incredibly learning milestones in the master, though based on each workshop leader's methodology and style, you are trained to make quick design decisions and to work speedily to produce quite bold and interesting design concepts and typologies catered to each workshop brief.
I began the MCH not sure of what would entail learning deeply and practically about collective housing, and now I truly feel enamored by the subject. It is quite evident that housing is an enduring issue, and the MCH manages to greatly catapult you into this amazing field. "
"The MCH Master has been a very successful part in my professional formation as an architect. The workshops have been very challenging and have served me to test my abilities to make hard decisions. The variety of nationalities in this master has helped me broaden my way of thinking since there are methodologies and working ways that I didn´t know. I have also learned how to transmit my way of thinking into my colleagues and have embraced theirs.
The atmosphere of the MCH has been made through teamwork, trust and friendship. The Trip to Zurich was amazing since the architectural visits were entirely focused on the program of the Master. What I would highlight the most about this Master is the quality of the professors and MCH leaders since they are the best in their fields of expertise and have had a successful trajectory in architecture."
"MCH is a practical and intense master that has the best professionals in each topic we have developed. Through lectures, specialties and workshops I have gained knowledge about the different topics of the city and housing, and I feel ready to face the new challenges in my professional career.
I really enjoyed the International workshops and the quality of teachers I could interact with in the Master that exceeded my expectations, with a different way of projecting architecture and giving us new techniques to develop each project. We learned of all the leading architects, but one of the most important things for me was knowing how to prioritize and define what I want to show in a project, to work in the most efficient way in the short time we had for each workshop.
I also think that the trip to Zurich is a point to highlight, our visit to the ETH facilities and having some activities in the campus, in addition to being able to appreciate the architecture of the city and to visit the different housing projects, in some cases together with the authors of the buildings, was an enriching experience.
The MCH has given me the opportunity to meet people from all over the world, by interacting and working in groups, I learned very much from them, each one has a different background, different skills and abilities to give that contribute to each project. In addition, over time we have created friendships that I believe will last beyond the master.
I am very grateful for all the knowledge and experiences received during this time that I am sure will serve my personal and professional future."
"MCH is an intensive and practical master. Having the topic “Housing” as a focus for all the seminars and workshops makes it very motivating to follow. Also, the topic of Housing is one of the major topics in architecture today. In this master the number of students and their different backgrounds makes it diverse, but also a good size group to be able to learn from everyone and even to create good friendships.
For me, the Workshops have been one of the most challenging and exciting moments in the master. With recognized experts in the area we were able to learn in one intense week the actual challenges of housing. The quality of the professors has been impressive, and they were always committed to help us as much as possible. In relation to the Specialties the best experts formed a great team of guests lectures that talked about the different topics in relationship to Housing and their challenges.
Furthermore, teamwork is a big part of this master. In most cases we had to learned how to take fast decisions and learn from others. Debates and discussions are part of this master and that makes it more interesting and challenging.
Finally, all the new knowledge didn’t stay in the classroom since one of the most interesting parts of this 7 months master is the trip to Zurich. It takes most of the topics that we had encounter in the classroom to life."
"The MCH experience is coming to an end, with only one specialty to finish I can now conclude that this master has pushed my limits in ways I never imagined. The specialties and mainly the workshops push us to develop projects throughout different approaches. Each teacher has a completely different way of working which incentivizes the students to work outside their comfort zone. We work hand in hand with every architects worst enemy: time. To achieve the best possible project result in an extremely condensed lapse of time. Making the master an extremely intensive working period.
Architects tend to be highly competitive which can make the ambience in a master very dense, a great strategy to avoid this tension is that teammates are sorted out in every project. You get to know your classmates, each persons strengths, weaknesses and who complements with your own way of working. With a very international point of view and age range each member contributes something new to the class.
The workshop professors have shared amazing knowledge and have guided us in an intensive week to get the best results possible. The multicultural point of views enrich the experience. For me the best part of the master is when you get to interact closer to the architects by visiting their offices, making field trips and actually standing in projects made by them. The Zurich trip will of course be remembered by all, by far the most exhausting yet enriching week of the master. The ETH campus is one of the greatest architectural spaces in the city, I extremely enjoyed this visit.
MCH has submerged me in a whole different architectural experience that I know will help me develop better professionally in the future."

"MCH is a very intense program focusing on housing and its role in the city. Through workshops, lectures and specialty seminars we got the chance to learn firsthand from top professionals, following a program that manages to achieve an optimal balance between theory and hands-on experience.
The one-week workshops are the most challenging yet interesting part of the Master program since we get the chance to work closely with Architects from different parts of the world who are experts in their fields and are very committed to share their knowledge and workflow with us in a constructive way. Each workshop is unique in its own way and I learned valuable lessons from all of them.
The study trip to Zurich was one of the highlights of the program. We got the chance to visit a number of inspiring housing projects and in many cases tour them with their authors. We also completed one of our workshops at the ETH and presented it there to the jury.
Moreover, there was a positive classroom atmosphere, which is very important given a significant part of the program is developed in teams. It was an enriching experience to be part of a multicultural class and to be able to learn so much from each other.
Overall the quality of the content and professors is impressive, and the whole experience has helped me deepen my knowledge in Architecture, focusing clearly on collective housing in particular. It has also been a time of personal growth and the beginning of long-term friendships."
"The MCH has completely fulfilled my expectations, I liked it very much because it was really practical and we were very into the design process of housing projects. It has been a great experience not only for all the knowledge I have acquired but also for the people I have met and the different cultures I have learn from. The workshops were really good, I especially enjoyed the first one, nevertheless I think we all enjoyed a lot each workshop in a different way. The study trip to Zurich was really good, the buildings and the offices we visited were amazing. The atmosphere in the classroom was really nice. I would definitely recommend this masters."
"The MCH is a program with a very high quality, this is given by the excellent level of professors that share their knowledge in each class and the very well planned and systematic organization that the master has. The combination of these two facts makes possible to acquire new concepts and improve your knowledge about city and housing week by week. Also, the workshops and specialties are scheduled in a way that can complement each other through the extension of the masters.
Even though it’s an extremely challenging program, that requires a lot of effort and hard work, at the end of the day it is also a life changer experience in both personal and professional ways. The MCH makes you see architecture in a different and new way and helps you to find your strengths and weaknesses as an architect and as a person.
The experience of meeting people from all over the world and make new friends it is also very richful because it lets you to open your mind and meet different cultures. Throughout the months of the MCH it is possible to have many group works that challenges your abilities for working in groups and under pressure, but this experiences really make you develop new skills, discover weakness and thrive in the path of becoming a better professional. The trip to Zurich it is also a very nice experience that allows to meet a lot of interesting housing projects and have a good time with your classmates.
In sum, this is a highly recommended postgraduate program that will make you grow as a person and as an architect and will be very helpful as a starting point for developing a professional career in city and housing."
