PABLO PÉREZ-RAMOS

ENERGY AND SUSTAINABILITY

Pablo Pérez-Ramos is Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. He holds Doctor of Design and Master in Landscape Architecture degrees from the GSD, and is a licensed architect from the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid (ETSAM).

Pérez-Ramos' research focuses on the formal associations between landscape architecture and ecology. It investigates the origins of contemporary ecological views in landscape architecture through an examination of the central debates in the development of ecological theory. It also looks back into the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries embryonic stages of ecology, biological systematics, and evolution, where ideas about environmental interrelation were largely embedded within metaphysical and epistemological notions of form. His research is ultimately concerned with the articulation of an expanded field of reciprocity between ecology and landscape architecture, and with the legibility of the interferences that exist between designed landscapes and the other forces and agencies through which the environment is formed.

Pérez-Ramos has been visiting assistant professor and the Urban Landscape Program coordinator in the Northeastern University School of Architecture. He has been a member of the editorial board of the New Geographies journal between 2013 and 2018, and co-editor-in-chief of New Geographies 08: Island (Harvard GSD, 2016). His writing has also been published in A Line in the Andes(Harvard GSD, 2012), MONU (2014), Urban Landscape: Critical Concepts in Built Environment (Routledge, 2015) and Architecture is All Over (Columbia University Press, 2017).

Pérez-Ramos has received grants and fellowships from the La Caixa Foundation, the Fundación Caja Madrid, the Harvard GSD, the Penny White Fund, and the Harvard RCC, and his design work has received numerous awards in competitions of architecture and urbanism. He has recently served as regional planning coordinator for the 2025 Masterplan for the Metropolitan District of Quito.
