MIRIAM GARCÍA

URBAN DESIGN & LANDSCAPE

Since 1998 I hold a Master´s Degree in Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and also a Master in Urban and Regional Planning from the National Public Administration Institute (2005). Member of the Spanish Association of Landscape Architects since 2013.

In professional work, I had my first job as civil servant at the Urban and Regional Planning Department of the Government of Cantabria (Spain) in 1999, becoming Chief Executive from 2003 to 2007. Since then, I run my own company: LandLab, laboratory of landscapes. This company designs different projects promoting and developing resilience through landscape, spatial planning and urban design. Several of these projects have been recognized with national and international awards. The Galician Coastal Management Plan: awarded as Good Practice 2012 by the Comité Un- Hábitat, and First Prize in the XII Biennial of Spanish Architecture and Urbanism, 2013; the Cantabrian Coastal Management Plan: first prize in the first prize in the Vth National Urbanism Prize at the Law, Urbanism and Nature issue, (2006).

I combine design work with research, writing and teaching. I have been visiting professor at The University of Pennsylvania, and associate professor at many universities in Spain as Zaragoza, Madrid and Barcelona where I continue partially teaching although currently I´m the Director of the Degree in Landscape Architecture of the School of Architecture and Technology of the University Camilo José Cela in Madrid. And last, but not least, I´m almost finishing my PhD thesis: "Toward the resilient metamorphosis of the coast", at the Department of Urban and Regional Planning of the Polytechnic University of Madrid.
