ZIPPED - The space in small Japanese houses arrives at the MCH library. A book written by Bernardo Martín, full professor of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of the Republic of Montevideo and former MCH participant (2006).
Professor José María de Lapuerta, MCH´s director, has written the prologue of this volume and has directed the PhD in which this publication is based. This “is the result of the collective work experience of 33 youths from Montevideo, all of them advanced architecture students or recently graduated architects, coordinated by Diego Morera and directed by the author. The meticulous task of selecting, collecting, systematizing and redrawing these 80 houses designs subject to extremely strict restrictions not only demonstrates the ability of contemporary Japanese architects to devise small residential programs but also reveals their amaizing skills for scale, limit and distance manipulation, and immerses us in the infinite interior".
From the MCH we highly recommend the reading of this work, written in Spanish and English, whose purpose is to study the inner space in a collection of small single family houses designed by freelance architects in residential areas of major Japanase cities during the first years of the 21st century.
The Master of Advanced Studies in Collective Housing is a professional and international postgraduate programme that is developed on a full-time basis, dealing with advanced architectural design in the city and housing. It is designed and taught jointly by the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH).
All vacancies for MCH2020 have been booked. The admission period for MCH2021 opens in February 2020, and it will remain so till 31.12.2020 or until vacancies are filled. The MCH2021 will have two groups, so first participants inscribed will have priority to choose their favourite workshop leaders.
