MCH 2011 workshop leader Riken Yamamoto wins the 2024 Pritzker Architecture Prize
We are thrilled to announce that Riken Yamamoto, leader of the MCH 2011 workshop, has been awarded the prestigious 2024 Pritzker Architecture Prize. This award, often referred to as the «Nobel Prize of Architecture,» is the highest honor in the field, recognizing Yamamoto’s exceptional contributions to architecture and his innovative approach to community-focused design.
Congratulations to Riken Yamamoto on this remarkable achievement! His philosophy and vision have made a significant impact on contemporary architecture, and this recognition is a testament to his dedication and creativity.
“For me, to recognize space, is to recognize an entire community,” Yamamoto expressed, highlighting the core of his architectural ideology. His work transcends the mere construction of spaces for individual families; it focuses on creating environments where communities can flourish together.
Tom Pritzker, Chair of the Hyatt Foundation, which sponsors the award, remarked, “Yamamoto develops a new architectural language that doesn’t merely create spaces for families to live, but creates communities for families to live together. His works are always connected to society, cultivating a generosity in spirit and honoring the human moment.”
Yamamoto’s commitment to fostering social connections through architecture has been evident in his extensive body of work, which continues to inspire architects and students worldwide. We are proud to have had the opportunity to learn from such a visionary leader through his involvement with the Master’s in Collective Housing (MCH) program.
