Specialty Leader: Sacha Menz

Specialty professor: Axel Paulus

Specialty Assistant: Dario Toppan

Our course offers a detailed and guided journey through all stages of the design and construction process, with a special focus on developing the key competencies of consultants, as well as the responsibilities and roles of all parties involved in a project. In an increasingly specialized, complex, and international environment, three compact chapters dedicated to the culture of construction become fundamentally relevant to understanding the current dynamics and challenges of the sector.

The course structure is organized around three essential areas that complement each other to provide comprehensive training: Profession, which emphasizes technical competence and interdisciplinary collaboration; Methodology, which delves into frameworks, management techniques, and monitoring mechanisms; and Environment, which analyzes needs, context, and the pursuit of sustainable balance. To address these topics, we explore in depth the fundamental principles, specific terminology, and emerging trends shaping professional practice today.

This course, first taught in Switzerland, challenged students to step out of their comfort zones and thoroughly explore their individual and collective skills. Through various assignments and projects, participants worked in teams to overcome obstacles and solve complex problems, always aiming to include and enhance the contribution of each member. This experience not only fostered cooperation but also strengthened adaptability and professional resilience.

Finally, the module “Leadership, Process, and Entrepreneurship” primarily aims to integrate all the knowledge acquired into a business model applicable to an architecture office. In this context, the importance of understanding that unique projects not only represent creative and technical challenges but also constitute a powerful symbiosis with corporate governance and business strategy is emphasized. In this way, students learn to manage projects efficiently, innovatively, and sustainably, paving the way to lead in an increasingly competitive global market.
