Juana Canet Roselló

She has been admitted to the Visiting Fellowship Programme at the University of Oxford for an international stay of Hilary term 2022-2023. She has been Visiting Scholar at the Graduate School of Architecture & Urban Design, Washington University in St. Louis [2017]. Lecturer at the UPM & Universidad Complutense, at Master’s in Strategies and Technologies for Development [2021-now]; at the ICHaB-ETSAM Cooperation Experts Course, at Universidad de Alcalá de Henares [2009, 2013-2016], in the Master’s Program for Advanced Architecture and City Projects; at Universidad Europea de Madrid [2005-2013]; and at Instituto Europeo di Design, Barcelona [2004-2005]. Researcher at Instituto de las Ciencias de la Construcción Eduardo Torroja, CSIC, in the Systems of Provisional Housing in Emergencies project [1998-2001].

She worked in Alison Brooks Architects, London [2001-2004]. She set up her own practice Juana Canet Architects in 2004. Her built works include: “Casa Poligonal” (Poligonal House) in Bendinat, Calviá [2017]; “Bloque Celosía” (Lattice Block) in Cala Ratjada [2011]; ‘Juego cromático’ (color play) classroom in Palma [2011]; “Bloque Zigzag” (Zigzag Block), Palma [2008]. Among the over 20 awards she has received are first prizes for: Tsunami Memorial, Thailand [2006]; Integral Housing Development, San Cristóbal de Bolívar, Colombia [2012]; Solar Decathlon Latin America and Caribbean, Colombia [2015]; Secar de la Real Day Center, Palma [2010]; Urban Model, Querétaro, Mexico [2000]; Other prize winners: Urban Development and Social Inclusion [2013]; Santa Ponsa Archaeological Museum, Mallorca [2010]; Place and Displacement: A Marketplace in Refugee Settlements, Za’atari, Jordan [2017]; Project Earth2: Cities of Tomorrow [2018].

In the field of research, she actively participates in the UPM Refugee Platform since its inception [2008] in various projects, including: the generation of the “Needs Assessment Methodology under a Multidisciplinary Approach [NAUTIA]”; digital literacy and improvement of classrooms in Sahrawi refugee camps in Tindouf, Algeria; and she leads a project of financed by the Madrid City Council 2020-2021: “Assessment Methodology for the integration of refugees in urban areas. City of Madrid.” She has participated with “Bamboo for Sustainable Livelihood project” in INNOVA SAHEL initiative [2022] organized by CIDEAL Foundation for Cooperation and Research and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation [AECID]

Currently, she is working on her doctoral dissertation: ‘Refugee Camps, from Temporary to Permanence. Atlas of Sub-Saharan African and Mediterranean.’ She is Vice-president of the Union of Mediterranean Architects [UMAR] 2017-now.
