Jesús Leal

Sociology, Economy and Politics

Jesús Leal is Emeritus Professor of Sociology at the Faculty of Political Sciences and Sociology of the Complutense University of Madrid. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the Complutense University of Madrid (1976) and a Master’s Degree in Sociology from the University of Paris X (1972).
His primary areas of research focus on housing policies and urban social structure in Spanish and European cities. Throughout his distinguished academic career, he has served as Co-Director of the European Master in Urban Studies (4 Cities) for over a decade, Visiting Scholar at the Institute of Urban and Regional Development at UC Berkeley, and Invited Professor at Sciences Po (Institut d’Études Politiques de Paris), in addition to holding academic positions across several Spanish universities. Teaching in MCH for its beginning 17 years ago,
Professor Leal has significantly contributed to public policy and urban planning, acting as an expert consultant for the Spanish Government on urban legislation and housing plans. He is an active member of international academic networks, including the European Network for Housing Research (ENHR) and Research Committee 21 (RC21) of the International Sociological Association (ISA). He is the author or co-author of more than 125 books, book chapters, and articles published in prominent national and international peer-reviewed journals.
