Gonzalo Pardo

Gonzalo Pardo (Madrid, 1980) is an architect who graduated from the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM) in 2007, earning his PhD in 2016. His thesis, titled Body and House: Towards the contemporary domestic space from the transformations of the kitchen and the bathroom in the West, was awarded Summa Cum Laude, the 2016-2017 Extraordinary Doctoral Thesis Award, and an honorable mention by the Arquia Foundation, establishing him as a prominent voice in the analysis of modern living spaces.
Having begun his professional practice in 2007, this vision crystallized in 2018 when he founded and became director of gon architects, a Madrid-based architecture and design office dedicated to the research and development of unique projects. His work encompasses a wide range of scales, from urban planning to interior construction.
Throughout his career, Gonzalo has amassed 41 national and international awards. Among them are the First Prize in the Competition for the Renovation of the Instituto Llorente Building (Madrid, 2021), the First Prize in the competition for the Archaeological Center of the City of Lancia (León, 2021), and the First Prize ex aequo in the Remodeling of the AZCA block (Madrid, 2007). Regarding built projects, among the awards it is included the 2025 COAM Interior Design Award and the 2024 NAN Accessibility Award for CASAVERA , along with mentions in the FAD Architecture and Design Awards (2020) for sequencehouse and the 2024 COAM Awards for Casa Flix.
His built work includes the ten-dwelling building “Foners” in the heart of Palma de Mallorca, alongside a series of interior renovations such as sequencehouse (2020), casa gialla (2022), casa flix (2024), and casa JAM (2026). He is currently bringing several projects to life on site, notably the Archaeological Center of the City of Lancia (León), the restoration of a building in Capdepera (Mallorca), six single-family homes in Cala Millor, a ninety-unit public housing building in Binissalem, and various renovations in Madrid, in addition to single-family houses taking shape in France, Austria, and the Netherlands.
His projects and works have been widely featured in national and international media such as El País, Il Corriere della Sera, Dezeen, Designboom, ArchDaily, Dwell, Manera, Arquitectura Viva, and Architectural Record, among others, and have appeared on programs like the Australian show Never Too Small.
Gon architects’ architectural approach springs from a playful, experimental, critical, and decidedly optimistic view of contemporaneity. Through a constant dialogue based on observation and meticulous detailing, his design solutions demonstrate a deep interest in creative processes. In this practice, architectural mediation and communication are not merely theoretical disciplines, but tangible and essential tools to transform the world into a more sustainable, inclusive, dignified, and free place.
Teaching and research have been a consistent thread throughout Gonzalo’s career. Since 2007, he has shared his vision as a visiting professor at prestigious international institutions, including the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago, Lund University in Sweden, the Master in Collective Housing (MCH) in Madrid and Zürich, and the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) in Madrid. He has also taught in the Master in Architectural Communication (MaCA) and the Master in Advanced Architectural Design (MPAA) at ETSAM. He currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Architectural Design Department at ETSAM and is a member of the Hypermedia research group, where he continues to shape new generations by directing undergraduate projects, master’s degrees, and doctoral theses.
