Hajar Karmane

Hajar Karmane is a Moroccan architect and researcher whose dual background in architecture and social sciences shapes a distinctly interdisciplinary approach to heritage conservation. Her path has taken her from Morocco through the United States and Turkey to France, cultivating a holistic perspective on the built environment. She is especially drawn to vernacular architecture, traditional knowledge systems, and the safeguarding of heritage.

Through her work with Terrachidia — as coordinator, lecturer, and consultant — she has gained extensive field experience in ksour and heritage projects across Morocco and beyond. Central to her practice is a collaborative approach with local communities and master artisans, ensuring that ancestral building techniques remain a living, relevant part of contemporary sustainable development.

She is the founder of Taraza Studio, a practice where human experience, context, architecture, and heritage converge. She is currently pursuing a post-master’s specialization in Earthen Architecture, Building Cultures, and Sustainable Development at CRAterre.
