John Porral

New tech in architectural design

John Porral is an architect by the Universidad San Pablo CEU, and self-taught computer programmer. In his practice, he has specialised in residential architecture, while working at 3DReid and Rogers, Stirk, Harbour and Partners in London (2013-2018). At present, he is a Senior Architect at Skrein Studios in Madrid. At 3DReid he led a research project into automation of the feasibility stages of design (AutoBlock, 2017).

In parallel, his interest in computation has led him to launch Script Studio, a research lab for the development of automation tools for architects. At present, Script Studio is working on a generative space planning tool, for the automation of residential layouts in initial stages of design. His work has led him to exhibit an interactive prototype, the Bedroom Script, in the Venice Biennale of Architecture (2021). He has also been invited as guest lecturer to Urbanbat Fest 11th Ed. (2022), Universidad de Navarra (2022), Universidad San Pablo CEU (2021), and guest juror to IE Segovia (2024). He has given a Miautics Lab on Generative Space Planning (2023).
